Formlabs 3D Printing
Formlabs reformulates its resins periodically. It is possible for a resin tank that has been used for one type of resin to be cleaned and re-used with a different formulation of that resin. In contrast to the solid filament spools that FDM uses, a 3D printer resin is a liquid solution. This liquid is basically composed of a mixture of different monomers and oligomers – short chains made mostly of carbon atoms and a few functional groups. Left in this state, they will remain in liquid form. Stereolithography (SLA) is an additive manufacturing - commonly referred to as 3D printing - technology that converts liquid materials into solid parts, layer by layer, by selectively curing them using a light source in a process called photopolymerization. When struck by a computer-controlled UV laser, the resin will change from a liquid to solid state. Basically, the laser “draws” the outlines of the print onto the resin layer and hardens the parts that it touches. ... The laser then solidifies specific areas of that layer, which will become parts of your 3D print. The technology you will need is the photopolymerisation , a technique that involves the solidification of photo-sensitive resin by means of a UV light. It is used by different 3D printing processes such as: Stereolithography (SLA) : uses a vat of curable photopolymer resin.
The Next Generation of Industrial 3D Printing
With advanced Low Force Stereolithography (LFS) technology, Formlabs has completely re-engineered resin-based 3D printing to drastically reduce the forces of the print process. Low Force Stereolithography (LFS) uses a flexible tank and linear illumination to deliver groundbreaking print quality and printer reliability.
